Cynthia Llanes

“Every day, nature’s phenomena reflect back to us its beauty in magical
and sometimes dramatic and intense images. My work is a celebration
and an expression of my wonder of the natural world.
I believe that art’s purpose is to uplift, inspire, communicate, or even
provoke a conversation.”

Cynthia Llanes discovered a love of drawing at an early age designing clothes for her dolls. After completing her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts in a private art school in Manila, Philippines, she pursued her love for fashion as a textile designer in the Los Angeles fashion district. Her textile designs have been sold by clothing outlets such as Bloomingdale’s, Kohl’s, Macy’s, Nordstrom, Target and other retail stores nationwide. While designing for the textile industry is fun, she also loves painting. She then became active in the Los Angeles art scene and joined several juried shows and art exhibitions in LA’s diverse art community for over 20 years. Her works can be found in private collections in the United States.

Moving to the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains of Asheville, Cynthia has found a
renewed vision in nature.  Her new-found muse has influenced her recent style towards a more expressionistic direction. As an oil and acrylic painter, she continues to discover beauty and seeks to find magical nuances even in ordinary subjects. Color, texture and light are the main entry points of her compositions. Her color palette is mostly pure and bright, using bold brushstrokes and palette knife effects – a reference to both Impressionism and Expressionism.

Llanes’ works can be viewed at her gallery and studio at the River Arts District in
Asheville. Located at the River View Station: 191 Lyman St., Asheville (STUDIO 324) Also available at the New Morning Gallery, Biltmore Village

When not painting, Cynthia loves to travel, ballroom dancing and hiking along the Blue Ridge mountains.
